Rachel Bilson was seen out in Malibu wearing the retro RayBan “Clubmaster” (RB 3016) Sunglass. Rachel has been recognized by several media sources as being a “fashion junkie”. She has described herself as having a “vintage” sense of style, and noted Kate Moss and Diane Keaton as inspirations. Rachel approached DKNY Jeans in late 2007 with a view to design a clothing line with the popular fashion brand. Together they created, Edie Rose, named after Bilson’s grandmother. The collection is set to launch in September 2008, and will consist of 15 sportswear pieces in a monochrome colour palette will be offset by pops of yellow, said to be inspired by a yellow scarf Bilson owned. 

RayBans were initially created in 1937 after Lieutenant John MacCready had returned from a balloon flying adventure in 1920. He complained that the sun had done permanent damage to his eyes. He contacted Bausch & Lomb asking them to create a type of sunglasses that would not only provide superb protection, but also look elegant. On May 7, 1937, Bausch & Lomb officially took out a patent for a prototype known as “Anti-Glare”. The sunglasses were made of gold-plated metal with two green lenses made of mineral glass to filter out infrared and ultraviolet rays. Pilots in the United States Air Force immediately adopted the sunglasses and the Ray-Ban Aviator became a well-known style of sunglasses when General Douglas MacArthur landed on the beach in the Philippines in World War II, and photographers snapped several pictures of him wearing them.

Christina Aguilera was out shopping on Robertson Blvd in Beverly Hills this week wearing a vintage Christian Dior “2056” sunglass. This classy frame was made in the early 1980’s and its style can be seen in many sunglass today, include many of Tom Ford’s current creations. In fact, Mr. Ford has stated that many of his sunglasses have been influenced by many frames of Christian Dior from the 1960’s to 1980’s.

Jennifer Garner was out at a Farmers Market yesterday wearing the retro styed Blinde “Particulary Peculiar” sunglass. I finally got around to seeing the movie “Kingdom” in which Jennifer takes her first role as part of an ensemble alongside Jamie Foxx and Jason Bateman. Now out on DVD it is a great movie and I highly recommend it if you like action movies.

The famous German supermodel, actress, TV presenter, fashion designer, television producer and singer (wow she’s got a lot going on!) Heidi Klum was spotted this past weekend at Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in West Hollywood wearing Tom Ford’s retro styled aviator “Hawkings”.  This model was Tom’s first sunglass and given the moniker model “TF0001″. The unique feature of this model is that it has two sets of lens; one set with framed lenses (as she is wearing) and an additional rimless set. The Hawkings sunglass’ origin dates back to the classic Porsche Design model from the 70’s.

Financier Arpad Busson was in New York yesterday with fiancée Uma Thurman wearing Chrome Heart’s “Elixer” sunglass.  Arpad is an amazing success story in the  hedge funds industry who created the EIM Group which today employs 172 people around the world and has $12.5 billion under management. He has also been known for his past high profile romances with Elle Macpherson and Farrah Fawcett.  His current fiancée is Uma Thurman which he began dating only since June 2007! 

David Arquette was at the Kinerase Skincare Celebration to benefit the EV Medical Research Foundation last weekend at the Santa Monica Pier wearing the very hip Original Penguin “St. Germain” sunglass.  You may have seen Penguin sunglasses in the hit HBO series Entourage as Vince Chase has been wearing the “Belize” sunglass.  These fantastic retro sunglasses are designed by Shane Baum who is also the designer for the funky Paul Frank Eyewear brand, as well the Modern Amusement brand that was created by clothing magnet Mossimo Giannulli. This brand definitely has that timeless style that is as much unique, as it is stylish and attractive.

Supermodel Elle Macpherson made a quest appearance at the Belstaffs Runway Show during Milan Fashion Week, in Milan, Italy yesterday.  She was wearing the classicPersol “714” folding sunglass which features a great reto Italian look.  Elle is most famous worldwide for her five cover appearances on Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue in the 1980s and 1990s.

Actress Uma Thurman was in Central Park, New York for a Bazaar magazine photo shoot this past weekend.  She was wearing the beautifully detailed Chrome Hearts “Elixer” sunglass that has a tough of retro style. 

Every once and while a new sunglass brand really catches our eye.  Maybe its the unique styles that are truly unique, the undeniable vibe of the brand, or possibly the that special “wow” factor that differentiates their sunglasses from the crowd.  We pride ourselves at Sunglass Superstore has having the most unique and completely hot sunglass styles on the planet, most of which are not commonly found at the typical boring sunglass stores.

We are a different kind of store for a reason. We are not some major corporate stuffy store, but rather I personally hand pick each and every sunglass in our shop for its unique style and/or demand.  We never buy our stock like the bloated corporate stores that have 200 of the same, boring, plain styles because some corporate buyer said so. If you leave our store without finding something really cool, different, and better than what you expected, then I am not doing my job correctly.

Kimberly Stewart was out shopping this weekend wearing Tom Ford’s Anouk sunglass.  This sunglass has been the advertising piece this summer and is a crazy retro style that has almost too much personality for most customers.  Its been hard to not see pictures of this sunglass in just about every magazine and Tom Ford poster.  However, it is still very rare to see the Anouk sunglass actually wore in public.  Kimberly is the daughter of rock legend Rod Stewart and is a  fashion model, socialite, fashion designer, and actress.

Another really cool and virtually unknown sunglass was shown on episode 35 on the award winning HBO series “Entourage”.  Vince (played by Adrian Grenier) was wearing Original Penguin by Munsingwear “Belize” sunglass. This model  is a very cool, and reto aviator that has been a big topic of conversation by people trying to figure out just what sunglass this was! 

Hayden Panettiere was out this weekend wearing the retro Oakley “Supreme Frogskins” in the special edition, and ultra rare, white frame with “Bronze Iridium” lens.  This version of the frame was one of the first Oakley sunglasses released back in 1984 and was very popular and manufacture for over 10 years.  The Frogskin design changed over the years and most significantly in 1996 when Oakley redesigned this sunglass and changed the name to “New Frogskin” introducing more wrap and a more sporty look.  The sunglass Hayden is wearing is a reproduction of that original Forgskin retro look. Oakley re-released this frame on a very limited production basis under the name “Supreme Frogskin”. 

Brad Pitt was celebrating the opening of “Oceans Thirteen” yesterday at Grauman’s Chinese Theater wearing one of Tom Ford latest sunglass, “Jack”.  This style has a vintage 50’s theme with metal plaque set into the upper frame.  The deep and beautiful Havana frame color adds the to character of this sunglass. 

Brook Shields was seen out on the town shopping with her children wear the timeless style of the RayBan 3025, the original aviator that started it all. The gold frame with the G-15 green lens is the original retro colors that are possibly more popular today, than ever before.

Jude Law was seen this weekend at the premiere of “My Blueberry Nights” at Cannes with the Grammy Award winning superstar Norah Jones. Jude was wearing classic and timeless RayBan style “Wayfarer”. It’s actually been quite amazing at seeing just how many celebrities are wearing the Wayfarer again as it truly has come back into style. Whether it was Tome Cruise in “Risky Business” playing air-guitar in his underwear, or even the Blues Brothers, the Wayfarer has become an American staple of style.
